Anonymous asked: Your brand of elitism is pretty disturbing. If one isn't impossibly good looking, over-educated, and fashionable, then they're either dismissed as "morons" or not even represented at all. And, I'm not a hater, because I think you're very talented, which is why this all the more tragic.

Your take on my work says a lot more about you than it does about me, and that’s pretty disturbing. The characters you’ve labeled as “impossibly good looking, over-educated, and fashionable” aren’t exactly depicted as saints. Some might even argue that they’re portrayed as slightly unpleasant. It’s really all about perspective. One of the reasons many people seem to be misjudging my work, and having such extreme reactions to it, is because we’ve been inundated with traditional Hollywood storytelling where the protagonist is always the “good guy” and a stand in for the author. People can’t seem to fathom that an author could create main characters who they don’t always agree with. I like writing about interesting people, and I may not like some of their actions or the things they say, but there’s an overall quality about them that I find incredibly interesting. There isn’t anything “elitist” or “tragic” about creating interesting, flawed characters.  Re-read “Yeah, YOU’RE Cool” with a critical eye, and keep in mind what I’ve just said and I’m sure you’ll change your mind.
